New Zealand's CFO Awards are presented to senior financial leaders who have made a contribution to business in New Zealand with quality, insight and steady direction.

The Awards will recognise financial executives at different stages in their careers to include seasoned executives, rising stars, or others whose outstanding leadership practices have raised the standards of accountability within any industry.

Financial executives may be nominated for outstanding acts that changed their organisation, life-long commitments to operational excellence, innovation in financial management, as well as any other unique successes that deserve recognition.

The CFO Awards 2010 Judges

Greg Whittred Bio
Prior to taking up the position as Dean at the University of Auckland Business School, Greg was Foundation President of UNSW (Asia), a comprehensive private university established under the Singaporean Government’s Global Schoolhouse strategy. From February 2002 through October 2005, he was Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Economics at the University of New South Wales. Between 1996–2001 he held a variety of senior management positions at the Australian Graduate School of Management. Greg is a Fellow of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, a member of the Securities Institute of Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is presently a Director of The ICEHOUSE, the New Zealand Leadership Institute and is a member of the Supporters’ Council of the Young Enterprise Trust. His areas of expertise include financial accounting and financial statement analysis, value–based management, and corporate governance.

Joanna Perry – Bio
Joanna is a member of the Institute of Directors, an independent professional director and chartered accountant. She was awarded membership of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the recent New Year Honours List for services to accounting. Joanna is deputy chair of Genesis Energy and a member of the boards of Kiwi Income Property, PSIS, AsureQuality, Melanesia Mission Trust and Rowing New Zealand. She also serves as an independent member of the Audit Committee of the Victoria Auditor-General’s Office and of the Speaker’s Assurance Committee. Joanna chairs the Financial Reporting Standards Board, is a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board and the Trans Tasman Advisory Group on Accounting and Auditing Standards. She is also a member of the Interpretations Committee of the International Accounting Standards Board. She is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants and was awarded the Institute’s 2006 Most Valued Contribution Award. Joanna was a KPMG partner for 17 years until 2006. She had a diverse range of roles and experience within KPMG, as well as being KPMG’s National Technical Partner and Chairman of KPMG’s Auckland/Wellington Management Board. Joanna was a member of the Securities Commission for 11 years. She rowed for Cambridge University and Great Britain in her youth and is currently an active kayaker, cyclist, runner and swimmer.

Anthony Burg – Vice President Finance, New Zealand Steel
Anthony Burg was appointed Vice President Finance for New Zealand Steel and the Pacific Islands in November 2006. He has responsibility for the Finance, Legal, IS and Procurement functions and sits as a Board member on a number of subsidiary and associated companies as well as being a Trustee of the New Zealand Steel Pension Fund. Prior to his current role Anthony worked as Finance Manager within BlueScope Steel’s Springhill and Packaging Products divisions in Australia where he oversaw major restructuring of the latter business. Prior to joining BlueScope Steel, Anthony spent 12 years with BHP Billiton in various Corporate Accounting, Corporate Finance and M&A roles within Australia and the UK.

New Zealand Steel is owned by BlueScope Steel, an Australian listed company. Operations began in 1968 and now comprise iron and steel making operations at Glenbrook south of Auckland utilising locally sourced ironsand, lime and coal. New Zealand Steel produces around 600,000 tonnes of steel per year for the domestic and export markets, half of which is further processed into a range of steel products for use in the building, construction, manufacturing and agricultural industries. Products include hollow sections, galvanised steel, ZINCALUME® steel and COLORSTEEL® steel.
